Cross-country skiing in Val Gardena,
amidst the Dolomites in Northern Italy
The perfectly groomed trails, on Monte Pana, Alpe die Siusi and Vallunga,
are suitable for all ability levels, offering fantastic views over the Dolomites
In Selva, the Vallunga provides a fantastic backdrop for cross-country skiing: it is located in the Puez-Odle Nature Park, just a few minutes' walk from our hotel. The first, flat portion of the Vallunga contains the short cross-country ski trails, which are signed in green and blue, and which are highly recommended for beginners. Experienced cross-country skiers can enjoy a five-kilometre, official training piste, which is also homologated for national-level cross-country ski races.
For a longer cross-country tour on skis (signed in black), the entire valley as far as the “Pra da Rì Meadow” – against the backdrop of a fantastic, mountainous landscape – can be traversed via a ten-kilometre loop:
- 1.5 km cross-country trail 1 - easy piste - change in altitude 23 m - green
- 3.0 km cross-country trail 2 - easy piste - change in altitude 55 m - blue
- 5.0 km cross-country trail 3 - moderate piste - change in altitude 81 m - red
- 10.0 km cross-country trail 4 - difficult piste - change in altitude 210 m - black
At the entrance to the valley, there is a biathlon centre, where local athletes from the Val Gardena Ski Club, and the Carabinieri sports team trains.
In addition, cross-country ski rentals are available there.
